Spain

To many people, Spanish wine is Rioja and Rioja is Spain! That's a really good place to start, but Spain has an enormous diversity of winemaking across its many regions. Major Spanish wine names include the Rioja and Ribera del Duero which are known for their Tempranillo production. Jerez, is the home of the long-established fortified wine, Sherry, and it's been making a bit of a comeback with both its aged dry and sweet wines offering unique flavours to the drinker willing to experiment with something a little off the beaten track. The northwest region of Galicia is known for its seafood and the increasingly popular white wines from Rías Baixas made from Albariño are perfect for summer sipping, and Catalonia, in the northeast, which includes the sparkling Cava and the still wine producing regions of the Penedès as well as the spectacular, mountainous Priorat region.
