Description
Volnay Vieilles Vignes, Jean Jacques Girard, Cote de Beaune, Burgundy, France, 2020
Grape: 100% Pinot Noir, "old vine" fruit (0.34-hectare parcel planted in 1959), oak matured for 15 months.
A family domaine in existence for 500 years! Currently managed by Jean-Jacques Girard and his son, Vincent. 15ha of vineyards across various appellations in the Cote de Beaune.
Bright, limpid ruby colour, with a nose of red fruits. A mature Pinot Noir that's silky and elegant on the palate.
"Cask sample. Served pretty cold but this has a distinct elegance to it. Fresh acidity to match the bright red/black fruit on the palate. Nice lift. A typical Volnay with a very approachable style. Good value"
16/20 points, Andy Howard MW, JANCISROBINSON.COM, January 2022
Enjoy with poultry, game birds, or even a Moroccan tajine with couscous.
