Description
Taylors Platinum Jubilee Very Very Old Tawny Port
On 6th February 2022, Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.
Producer Tasting Note:
"Rich mahogany with a pale ochre rim. An opulent, heady nose overlaid with cigar box, roasted coffee, pressed rose petals and a hint of ginger. An intense, heather honey bouquet with some singed leather, scents of fine oak, five spice and figs. Beautiful aromatic structure which dances on your nose, enticing you in for your first sip. On the palate wonderful concentration and bright, racy acidity. Notes of anise, marzipan, quince, scorched orange peel, molasses, cardamom and a subtle hint of butterscotch. The symphony of flavours that awaken your senses are precise, in balance and alluring. An astonishingly refined and well-formed mature tawny port. The perfect way to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee."
"To celebrate this unprecedented anniversary, Taylor’s Port, a Royal Warrant Holder to HM The Queen decided to bottle a Very Very Old Tawny Port. This exceptional Port is drawn from our extensive reserves of the finest wood aged wines, which have been maturing in seasoned oak casks, since the Queen succeeded to the throne, silently attesting to Her Majesty’s extraordinary reign as the longest serving Monarch in British history.” stated Adrian Bridge, Managing Director of Taylor’s, and adds: “We are delighted to celebrate such an exceptional commemoration with the launch of a unique Port wine. The perfect glass to raise a toast to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”
The component wines for this limited-edition bottling have been individually selected and blended by Taylor’s blenders. The attention to detail in the cellars is displayed on the palate of this extraordinary wine, where notes of anise, marzipan, quince, and subtle hints of butterscotch, overlaid with astonishing refinement and balanced acidity. The decades of ageing in wood have concentrated this wine almost to an essence, producing intense, complex nutty and spicy aromas, elevated by a crisp acidity which gives the wine an attractive freshness.
Critics' Tasting Notes:
"Brownish-tawny colour in the glass with a hint of green. Very intense and layered on the nose with notes of cinnamon, roasted coffee, marzipan and treacle. The palate has a rich viscosity and matched intensity from the nose. The flavour profile follows from the nose but there is more of a dried-citrus and cherry tone, pushing through to match the spice. Succulent yet fine with mouth-watering acidity. Very long and very fine." Drink 2022-2032
18.5/20 points, Tom Parker MW, JancisRobinson.com, March 2022
"Mahogany in colour, it has a complex and refined nose, mixing nuts, tobacco, pink pepper, dried figs, honey, candied citrus fruits, aromatic herbs. The body is full, even opulent, but not at all caramelised, in a perfect balance between structure and acidity. Intense, vibrant, with unique harmony and an endless finish punctuated by spicy notes. A remarkable tawny."
