Semillon. Often blended with Chardonnay in Australia, or, in Bordeaux, with Sauvignon Blanc for dry wine production. Semillon wines often have a noticeable "waxy" texture, gaining weight with considerable bottle age. As a dessert wine, Semillon grapes are left on the vine to be affected by botrytis cinerea (Noble Rot) to produce the fabulous sweet wines from Sauternes and Barsac.
