Description
Meursault Vieilles Vignes, Guy Bocard, Cote de Beaune, Burgundy, France, 2020
Grape: 100% Chardonnay, 50+ year old vines grown on clay/limestone soil, barrel fermented, 12 months' ageing in Burgundian oak (25% new) and a further 6 months in steel tank.
This Meursault comes from four plots, all located in the northern part of the village of Meursault: "En la barre", "Les Durots", "Les Malpoiriers" and "Les Dressoles" which are all in conversion to organic farming and, since 2020, Guy has handed over winemaking to his long-time associate, René Mora.
The wine is pale gold in colour, with lemon-yellow highlights. A nose of honey, white flowers and toast. On the palate, more white fruits and white flowers are accompanied by fresh, melted butter and a toasty woodiness. The vibrant acidity balances the roundness of the wine, and gives a long finish.
Pair with an omelet with chanterelles and spring onions, sea bream and shallots, or a cauliflower and woodruff mousseline.
