Loureiro is a white grape variety grown mostly in Portugal where it's used in the production of the light, dry Vinho Verde wines from the Minho region. Also, planted in Rias Baixas, across the border in Spain's Galicia (where it's called Loureira) it makes similar style wines and is often found blended with the local varieties Trajadura (Treixadura) and Albarino. The grape makes wines which have aromas of peach, orange/citrus and acacia/white blossom. Flavours include lime, grapefruit and bay leaf with a note of salinity. Drink Loureiro wines with seafood including clams and prawns, or lightly spiced dishes. Also, try Loureiro with cod fritters "Bolinho de Bacalhau", a staple of Portuguese cuisine.
