Grapes: 100% Pinotage, 18 months' ageing in French oak (40% new), Winemaker Danie Steytler. 

Dark depth of black plum with an opulent, slightly reductive nose of black cherry, mulberry and stewed plum. The oak is very subtle and integrated, playing to the strengths of the fruit purity and precision. Texturally there is impressive focus, balanced finesse and an elegant mouthfeel punctuated with soft supple black fruits and oak spice.

The red gravel soil in our hallmark Pinotage blocks gives these vineyards their name — Rooiland (red land). Pinotage and its rich history is rooted in the Bottelary Hills and, with this wine, we honour this unique South African cultivar in its classic style: intense, plush, and opulent. A full-bodied dry red wine.

Kaapzicht's Rooiland Pinotage comes from 20-year-old bush vines planted in weathered granite soil. The vineyards are all dry land, unirrigated.

"The 2021 Rooiland Pinotage offers a focused, fresh and ripe complexity with layered spiciness and hints of mineral and pencil lead. It features dusty cherry, sour plums, potpourri notes and a rocky essence. This medium to full-bodied wine is balanced, smooth and layered, with refreshing flavors of cherry skins and spicy plums, and it has a food-friendly finish." Drink 2023-2033
