Henriet Bazin Rose Grand Cru NV Champagne, France
Grapes: 50% Pinot Noir & 50% Chardonnay from Montagne de Reims 'Grand Cru' vineyards in Verzenay and Verzy, dosage 8g/L, 19% vinified as still red wine for colour, 30% reserve wines from a solera started in 1968, minimum 3 years ageing on lees in bottle before disgorging.
Making Champagne since 1890, Henriet-Bazin is a small, independent grower/producer located on the eastern edge of the Montagne de Reims, in the village of Villers-Marmery.
This Champagne has fine and lively bubbles, the mousse in the mouth is fine, fruity and concentrated. Mineral, with notes of lemon, morello cherry, blackcurrant and toast.
Critic's Tasting Note:
"This deep-pink-colored wine has ripe red-berry flavors and swathes of acidity and a touch of tannin. The fruit for the wine comes from grand cru vineyards on the Montagne de Reims, gives the wine depth, richness and concentration. This is a fine wine, ripe and ready to drink."
92/100 points, Wine Enthusiast, January 2017
Food match: Bluefin tuna sashimi with Timut pepper, Scorpion fish fillet, fresh ratatouille, Parma ham.
