Description
Doppler "Efekt Rdece", Doppler Winery, Styria, Slovenia, 2018
Grapes: 50% Modra Frankinja (Blaufrankisch) and 50% Zweigelt, 15 days of skin contact fermentation in stainless steel, aged on fine lees for 24 months in used 225L oak barrels.
Doppler's "Red Effect" wine has a ruby red colour with slightly brick notes, an aroma of dark berries & tobacco leaves with cocoa bean, cherry and chocolate flavours.
Vineyards, situated just north of the town of Maribor, in the Scajerska Slovenija (Styria) region of Podravje, were originally established by Austrian, Benedictine monks in 1815 and the property was later puchased by Ivan Doppler in 1938. With the third generation now running the vineyards and winery, Doppler produces hand-made wines with an emphasis on traditional, regional varieties.
The wine's acidity allows it to cope magnificently with dishes including grilled lamb, duck, and those utilising barbecue sauces or tomato based sauces.
If you enjoy a good Cru Beaujolais, try some Doppler's "Efekt Rdece".
