Description

Château Perron, Lalande de Pomerol, Bordeaux, France, 2019

Grapes: A blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. 36ha of vines, average age 25 years. In conversion to organic farming. 12-18 months' ageing in large, conical trunk oak vats.

One of the oldest chateau in the region, established in 1647, the property has been owned by the Massonie family for the last three generations.

Presents beautifully. Profound garnet-red, slightly amber at rim. Attractive nose of red berries, sour cherry, spices and menthol with some oak and liquorice notes. The palate reveals a subtle, delicate wine and a velvety texture with beautifully ripe, plump tannins. Fresh, spicy finish. A very fine, easy-to-drink with good cellaring potential.

Critics' Tasting Notes:

"Bold tannins and layers of black fruits come through strongly in this impressive Merlot-dominated wine. It has a dense, still young texture that will develop well. Drink this promising, structured wine from 2025."

92/100 points,WINE ENTHUSIAST, March 2024

"The Château Perron 2019 is a true organoleptic success that demonstrates the excellence of the Massonie family's expertise. On the nose, it reveals a rich and complex bouquet evoking aromas of black cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant, which are grafted onto more subtle notes of damp earth, liquorice and truffle. The scents of vanilla, sweet spices and blond tobacco, inherited from controlled aging in oak barrels, complete this inviting aromatic palette. On the palate, it reveals all its majesty. The attack is both powerful and velvety. The tannic structure, very present, but of remarkable finesse, supports a fruity frame of great intensity, where the flavors perceived on the nose are redeployed. The balance is perfectly mastered, combining aromatic richness and freshness, which gives the wine an elegant tension. The spicy and woody notes intertwine at the end of the mouth, prolonging the pleasure in a finish as elegant as it is persistent. Oxygenate in a carafe for ±45 minutes and serve at 17 °C. A delight with entrecôte à la bordelaise, quail stuffed with mushrooms, grilled pork tenderloins, or with grilled beef tournedos."
