Carignan

Carignan is believed to have originated in Spain in the Aragon region and was historically a component of neighbouring Rioja's red wine blend. The wines are generally high  in tannin and acidity though modern wines from the south of France are treated to Carbonic Maceration which softens the tannins enabling them to be drunk young.
