Ernst Loosen took over the St Johannishof estate from the 1987 vintage having finished his degree in archaeology. It was soon after that he decided to market his wine under the somewhat easier handle of Dr Loosen. The reputation of Ernst Loosen as a Master of Riesling, and great ambassador for Riesling, is well established throughout the world.
