Founded in 1973, on the outskirts of Logrono in Rioja Alta, Bodegas Olarra produces wines under three labels at this winery (Anares, Cerro Anon & Olarra). Tempranillo is the major grape variety used here and the families supplying the grapes for the winery all have small-holdings of under one hectare each. The unique winery design is recognised as the "Great cathedral of Rioja" with a barrel room consisting of 111 individual roof domes which negate the effect of outside conditions, requiring no air conditioning to control the temperature inside. The third generation Ucin family, along with winemaker Javier Martínez de Salinas, make up the team at the bodega. The group's second winery, Ondarre, was established in 1985 in Viana, at the eastern end of the Rioja Oriental where they produce the rare 100% Mazuelo (Carignan) based wine, "La Escaleruela Vinedo Singular".
