Grape: 100% Nebbiolo, organic, tiny 1ha vineyard of 50 year old vines, sustainable farming, 30 months' ageing in 25hl Slavonian casks. 

Deep ruby in colour, this wine has intense aromas of dark cherries, raspberry, white pepper, mint, cedar, and liquorice. The wine is beautifully textured with delicate hints of balsamic and liquorice coming through on the palate, culminating in a long, juicy finish.

"It shines in the glass with mixed floral and fruity notes reminiscent of lavender, hibiscus flowers, jasmine and hawthorn. Extremely captivating and sensual, it shows a dense and expressive secondary profile that asks to attack the glass. Full body, perfectly ripe tannins and a finish of splendid energy and progression. Beautiful right away but better from 2025 onwards."

"The 2019 Barolo Baudana offers good power and ripeness with sweet fruit flavors, dark cherry, spice and ferrous earth. These aromas are characteristic of this site in Serralunga d'Alba. On a scale of growing intensity, Baudana generally comes after the Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba and before the Barolo Cerretta in this portfolio of three wines."

"The Baudana vineyard is among the most highly regarded in Serralunga d’Alba. With a combination of clay and sand soils and a perfect southwest facing aspect, Baudana Nebbiolo grapes have provided elegance and finesse to some of Barolo’s finest wines. The Luigi Baudana estate was purchased by the Vajra family in 2008 but is run as a separate entity. The 2019 Baudana Barolo is an elegant, appealing and complex wine. While it shows the ripeness of the harvest and the sleek and subtle spiciness of oak, the unique style of the Nebbiolo grape shows clearly. Layers of juicy raspberry, red plum and cherry fruits are underlain by floral rose hints and elements of leather, sandalwood, tea and spice. The flavors are elegant and complex, with the delicate fruits enveloped by the classic, leafy, forest floor character of fine Barolo. The beautiful, long finish reveals the inherent breadth and complexity of the wine. Delicious now, it can cellar well for another 20 years"

Luigi Baudana is one of the smallest active wineries in Serralunga d’Alba and the entire Barolo region. With only 2.6 hectares (6.4 acres) farmed in some of the prime crus of the village, this can rightly be considered a true garagiste producer. Since 2009, Luigi and his wife have handed over the day-to-day running of the property and the winemaking to neighbouring producer, G.D.Vajra.

The one hectare cru "Baudana" is located on the western slope of Serralunga d'Alba at 250m - 350m above sea level with an ideal southerly or south-westerly facing aspect.
