Description
Ascesa Nebbiolo Rosso di Valtellina, Lombardy, Italy, 2020
Grape: 100% Nebbiolo (Chiavennasca), a blend of fruit from Tresivio (480–550 m a.s.l.) and Buglio (350-420 m a.s.l.), sustainable farming, manual harvest, wild yeast fermentation, aged 20 months in stainless steel
Rosso di Valtellina is a wine produced by the Ascesa company, of great elegance and structure, obtained from Nebbiolo grapes. In the glass, it denotes an intense ruby red colour with garnet reflections; on the nose, it expresses an excellent bouquet characterised by floral notes (rose and violet), red fruit (cherry and plum), undergrowth, toasted sweet spices and aromatic herbs. The palate is intense, medium-bodied, balanced with excellent freshness. Enveloping and well integrated tannins.
Ascesa was founded in 2018 by a group of four friends with just 2.5ha of vineyards situated around the steep, terraced slopes of the Alpine valley of Valtellina located close to the Swiss border, north-east of Milan and Lake Como. Ascesa's winemaker is Fabrizio Testa, who previously worked in Tuscan wineries for more than 10 years.
