Description
Yannick Amirault Bourgueil "Le Grand Clos", Loire, France, 2020
Grape: Cabernet Franc, organic, 45-50 year old vines from just 2ha of vineyards, hand picked, destemmed bunches, 30hl/ha yield using only first press juice for fermentation, 12-18 months ageing in large oak barrels.
Starting with less than 4ha in 1977, the domaine has grown to 20ha and, in 2009, was certified organic and all vineyard work is carried out following the lunar cycle. Only Cabernet Franc grapes are grown at the property.
From the early 20th century, "Le Grand Clos" was considered to be a "1er Cru" vineyard by the Abbey of Bourgueil.
Soft, menthol and rosewood notes on the nose. The tannic frame is thick and unctuous, with a salivating acidity. Dense, harmonious and slightly spiced on the palate. At least 10 years potential ageing.
Awarded 92/100 points in Decanter.
A gastronomic wine to pair with red meat dishes and game.
