Critics Comments and Scores
94-96The 2023 Léoville Barton is a lovely classic in the making, unfurling in the glass with aromas of cassis and blackberries mingled with notions of pencil shavings, licorice and violets. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's layered, concentrated and suave, with beautifully refined tannins, vibrant acids and a long, penetrating finish. Benefiting from the Barton family's new highly functional winery, as well as experimentation with more discreet cooperage choices, it's somewhat reminiscent of the estate's terrific 2016. The 2023 blend is 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc.N/AWK

Chateau Notes
Château Léoville Barton, one of the iconic estates in the Saint-Julien appellation of Bordeaux, France, is a paragon of quality and traditional winemaking. As a Second Growth estate designated in the prestigious 1855 Classification, Léoville Barton is renowned for its robust, structured, and intensely flavoured wines emblematic of the Saint-Julien terroir. Located in the heart of Bordeaux's Left Bank, the estate benefits from exceptional gravelly soils, ideal for cultivating the predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon vines, supplemented by Merlot and Cabernet Franc. This soil composition and the temperate maritime climate allow for the production of wines with remarkable depth and complexity. Owned by the Barton family since 1826, Château Léoville Barton is notable for not having its winery; instead, it shares vinification facilities with its sister estate, Château Langoa Barton. This close relationship between the two estates ensures a continuity of style and quality, driven by a commitment to manual harvesting and traditional winemaking techniques while incorporating modern innovations to enhance wine quality. Château Léoville Barton’s wines are characterized by their vigorous tannic structure, intense dark fruit flavours, and elegant notes of cedar and spice acquired from ageing in French oak barrels. These wines are celebrated for their ability to age gracefully, developing nuanced flavours and a silky texture over time.
